Our Story

Historically the walled garden would have been the working kitchen garden for the adjacent Over Rankeilour House, although it hasn’t been used as such since the 1970s. In the early 1990s the garden was separated from the house and has been owned since then by the Crombie family as part of Over Rankeilour Farms. The family have long wanted to find a purpose for the disused garden and in 2021 the plan for a community therapeutic garden was formed. With experience from having worked as a GP in the Levenmouth area, it was clear that the demand for greenspace projects was there, and when the Covid pandemic hit in 2020, the need for safe, outdoor spaces for communities to gather became greater still. With the help of the charity Trellis and the fantastic Steering Committee the garden started accepting volunteers in June 2022 and continues to grow day by day, now with the added support of the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund. The hope is to gradually restore the garden to some of its former glory and in the process to create an inclusive community group invested not just in the project but in each other too.
